Why We Exist

Technology should empower everyone, not just the privileged few. Yet across Indonesia, critical knowledge remains locked behind paywalls, complex systems favor those with connections, and millions of brilliant minds lack access to the tools that could unleash their potential.

YaTTI (Yayasan Teknologi Terbuka Indonesia - Indonesian Open Technology Foundation) exists to tear down these digital barriers. We believe that when technology is open, transparent, and accessible, it becomes a force for equality rather than division.

What We Do

We don’t just talk about openness—we build it. Every day, we create practical tools that solve real Indonesian problems:

• We make laws searchable: Our AI-powered legal search engine transforms 5,800+ Indonesian regulations from impenetrable PDFs into instantly searchable knowledge. A small business owner in Makassar can now understand compliance requirements as easily as a Jakarta law firm.

• We preserve and share knowledge: Our knowledge bases contain over 777,000 documents spanning science, culture, and wisdom traditions. A researcher in Manado can access the same depth of information as someone at UI or ITB.

• We develop in the open: Every tool we create—from locale definitions that help software speak Indonesian, to command-line interfaces that democratize AI access—is open source. Any developer, anywhere, can use, modify, and improve our work.

• We advocate for transparency: We push for open data policies, transparent governance, and collaborative approaches that challenge traditional hierarchies. When information flows freely, innovation follows.

Our Vision

We’re building toward an Indonesia where:

• A programmer in Papua can contribute to global projects with the same tools available in Silicon Valley
• A startup in Semarang can access the same AI capabilities as a multinational in Jakarta
• Government data serves citizens proactively, not reactively
• Every Indonesian can verify, question, and build upon public information
